When your silver jewellery weighs over 7g it will be hallmarked by Edinburgh assay office as a requirement by law. The metal is tested and marked for authenticity.
Solid gold items weighing 1g or more will also be sent for hallmarking.
Items under this weight are not required to be hallmarked.
